HABITS OF SUCCESS ASSESSMENT

Harborside Academy took on the challenge of trying to assess or provide feedback on student's overall character/soft skill development. As a result, students receive both an academic grade as well as a character grade in every academic class we offer.

Our six Habits of Success traits--Cooperation, Tenacity, Integrity, Respect, Leadership, and Humor--are assessed on a weekly basis, and staff are able to provide feedback to students in one or all six of these traits. The feedback students receive can either cause the overall HOS score to increase or decrease over time.

RECOGNITION OF HOS EXCELLENCE

At the end of each semester, students are recognized for their growth in character for students that increased their score. Students who exemplify character growth are recognized with patches and pins that can be displayed in a frame or on a letterman jacket. Upon completion of their senior year, students who receive all six Habits of Success traits as a Harborside students, they are recognized with a medal to wear at graduation.

​In addition, one student is chosen as a "Model of Character" for each trait and are recognized at senior banquet with a crystal award, and their name is engraved on Harborside Legacy's wall that is displayed in the school's hallway.
