EVIDENCE: HIGH-QUALITY WORK PROTOCOL RESULTS, 2019-2020

During the 2019-2020 school year, one high-quality work protocol was conducted with the staff (the 2nd was scheduled to happen in May, but was cancelled). At the time of the protocol, 12 different staff brought forward a product that was reviewed in the triad groups. Recording sheets were used by all participants and were then shared with the leadership of the High-Quality Work Committee. The following trends were noted:

Complexity

  • Work went through multiple steps of revision/drafts to attain high quality

  • Clear rubrics and learning standards

  • 4 T's-style planning

  • Claim/evidence/reasoning

  • Projects broken down into multiple steps

  • Organization

 

Craftsmanship

  • Quality graphics

  • Models were used to support quality


Authenticity

  • Use of modern ideas like "memes and podcasts” seemed authentic to the students

  • Classwork connected to fieldwork

  • Culminating events

HQW TRENDS WHERE IMPROVEMENT WAS RECOMMENDED


Complexity

  • Multiple suggestions for more specific and organized task descriptors

  • Suggestion to consider including HoS learning targets in addition to academic targets


Craftsmanship

  • Many suggestions to consider creative final products (i.e. podcasts, calendars, booklets, etc.)

  • More feedback was recommended for students before finalizing products

  • “Task descriptors didn’t lay out expectations for craftsmanship.”


Authenticity

  • More authentic audience for final products (public audiences)

  • Increased use of reflection protocols with students post-completion
