EVIDENCE: "THIS I BELIEVE"

Each spring, seniors at Harborside participate in the "This I Believe" project. Inspired by the NPR series and nonprofit organization of the same name, the project asks them to think about the beliefs and values they hold true and to consider the influence that their life and academic experiences have had on shaping those parts of themselves.

To begin the project, students first listen to and read model "This I Believe" statements written by other people. They then brainstorm and write their own statement and create a video in which they present their ideas. They are encouraged to use creativity in their video and to truly let it be a reflection of who they are. Students present their "This I Believe" videos at Senior Passages

Even though each "This I Believe" video is thematically similar, they are also diverse in their beliefs and values. In each video, you will notice how each student shares what they have learned about themselves as they became older and what truly became important to them that they wanted to make sure they shared with others around them. These videos not only show a true self-reflection on who they are and what they are proud of, but they also provide guidance for those that follow them to embrace who they are, and by doing so can help to build a better world.
